Outstanding Team Work
We have a strong and dedicated team of adults at each house. They bring considerable maturity and wide experience not only caring for looked-after children but experience in many related fields.
Above all, they are compassionate and passionate in their desire for children to have an experience at our houses which leaves them not only healed from the past but ready for the future.

Founder & CEO
Originally an architect, Helen realised in her mid-twenties ‘that she was better with children than with concrete!’ and became a teacher. She is passionate about a holistic approach to raising children with education being at the heart of her work. Her education experience includes leading residential boarding in schools in the East Midlands and being the Head of Loughborough Grammar School. It has long been a dream to help children in residential care and Woodbridge Care is the culmination of that dream. She is the Registered Manager of the two homes and recently received an Outstanding in All Areas from OFSTED. Delighted that her hard work is paying off, she also puts it down to the inspiration of the children and the adult team who have come along the journey that Woodbridge Care has taken.

Founder & CEO
Alwyn worked as a teacher for many years, focusing on pastoral support and safeguarding. He also was a freelance ghostwriter, helping people to write their autobiographies and tell their life stories. He opened and ran a small artisan bakery which was a great learning experience in how to run a small business as well giving him access to a lot of cake.

Alwyn is our Responsible Individual.
Starting Woodbridge Care with Helen was the fulfilment of a long desire to make a difference to young people who need a home and a place to thrive.

Deputy Manager - Pennybridge
I've always enjoyed spending time with young people, getting to know them and helping them through difficult times. That's why I love my job at Woodbridge Care. I've always wanted to help people - I used to volunteer with a charity which helped families who had younger children and who were looking for extra support.
Outside of work, I used to bake cakes, run long distances and read books - especially easy reads or thrillers. I seem to have much less spare time these days! But I spend most of it with my own family.

Em Smith

Deputy Manager - Woodbridge
Em is trained as a Nursery Nurse at the beginning of her career and now has over 20 years of experience in childcare, working in nurseries, pre-schools and as a childminder for Social Services, supporting young children on child protection plans. Caring for children has always come naturally to Emma, and as her
own children grew older, she was ready for a new challenge and decided to move into residential childcare and discovered her true passion, working in a range of residential settings has been both incredibly rewarding and deeply challenging.
Experience continued and Emma worked with adults with learning disabilities in residential care, which strengthened knowledge and broadened her perspectives.

In 2024, Emma knew it was time to return to what she loved the most—supporting young people. That journey led me to Woodbridge Care, to become the Deputy Manage of a thriving house full energy, a challenging role and a huge privilege of making a difference every day
