Building the Family...

​

The well known phrase ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ holds a lot of wisdom.

 

It is especially powerful if your own family have not been able to provide all that you need. The ‘Build My Family’ programme starts when the young person moves into a home with us. Here they will:

 

• Build trusting, positive relationships with the adults who care for them and who are trained in trauma-specific care 

• Be able to enjoy a calm, well-planned home with its predictable routines and rhythms 

• Benefit from the help offered by a clinical psychologist with specific difficulties 

 

But there’s much more to it than just providing an excellent therapeutic home. We fully recognise that our young people have significant family connections and that these form a powerful part of their present and their future. Wherever possible, we work directly with the young person’s family members to: 

 

• Build relationships based on trust and listening 

• Find ways in which the young people and their family members can make progress together 

• Involve clinical and therapeutic support 

 

The ‘Build My Family’ programme is a key part of how we aim to equip our young people for their future.

 

Our expertise in this area has become increasingly recognised and, as Ofsted recently said (paying tribute to one of the ways in which we are ‘Outstanding’), our work here is one of the ways in which we go ‘above and beyond’.
